March 12, 2007

Hallelujah sista! Nancy Giles nails it in this commentary on the question of whether or not Senator Barack Obama is “Black enough.”

I will probably be crucified for this comment. But I really wish, Edwards, Obama, and Clinton - would go away. We need a STRONG CANDIDATE to take back the Presidency. What do we have? A black man, a woman, and a wuss. Not exactly the kind of candidates who are going to bring all sides together, and help us win an election (because their minority status or lack of a backbone creates so much controversy from the get-go). It would be great to have any sort of minority to actually become president, someday. But do we want to take that gamble now? After all these years of trying to regain the seat?

Smiley, baby, we minorities have been told that the time is not right for far too long. The time was not right for an end to slavery. The time was not right for giving women the right to vote. The time was not right to end segregated schools. The time was not right to intergrate the military. The time was not right to pass the Civil Rights Act.

if the time is not right, when will it be?

Hehehehe, You have a way of extrapolating things out of stuff I didn’t say :) I’m talking about presidents not rights for slaves, women, schools, military, or civil rights in general. I’m talking about getting another democrat in the white house LOL Do we want that, or do we just want to keep blindly tagging to lame candidates like Gore, Lieberman, Edwards, Kerry - and then wonder why the Republicans keep winning?

Smiley, for a lot of us you separate talk about presidents and minorities. You make the comment that Obama and Clinton’s “minority status or lack of a backbone creates so much controversy from the get-go.” Obama’s race and Clinton’s gender are only controversial for people who have issues with Black people or women. Combine the two and its you in the minority, not us.

Nope won’t accept that exrapolation either. It’s not an accurate representation of what I meant. It’s only an accurate representation of your paradigms. And yes, people do have issues with minorites - in this country. Does it make me a racist or sexist to state the obvious? Am I supposed to be so politically correct that we lie to each other?

Smiley, where in my comment did I ask you to lie? We agreed people in America have issues with race and gender issues. That’s not news. Its reality.
